Gg’s Post-vet Follow-up

DSC01639It’s so good to have Wondervet back off of maternity leave.  Yesterday afternoon, we chatted again, about Sissy’s next appointment with the eye vet, and about Gretchen’s travel anxiety treatment plan.

Wondervet doesn’t have much faith that the Gravol will help, but we’re going to try that next.  25 mg or a half tablet, 30+ minutes before travel.  She says it just doesn’t seem to help most dogs, but what I like about her is that she’s willing to try these “wild hairs” I come up with.

If that doesn’t work, we’re going to try another doggy prescription again.  Stay tuned.

My dogs love to *go* – but my little old Lowi (the rattie I had before Jetta) did not enjoy it and we never did get her to tolerate it very well… good luck with the doggie meds… it is a pain when you can’t take someone with you who oh-so-badly wants to go!

[…] an update on the girls’ blog from yesterday’s chat with Wondervet.  If you get a chance, can you stop by and wish a kitty […]

  3. Fiona (and Abby the Hippobottomus) Says:

Abby and I are fine with traveling (I went halfway across the country and back at 9 weeks old in a motorhome), but Mr. Bufus was NOT a happy camper (so to speak). It took our vet and Mom a bunch of tries to get it right before he didn’t throw up/poop everywhere. I’m not sure they were 100% successful, but he was about a million years old, and seemed to settle in after the first day on the road. So good luck!

    Great post today.

  5. gMarie Says:

Well I hope the gravol works. Abby eventually grew out of getting car sick, but I understand the gg doesn’t get car sick, but just hugely anxious – fingers crossed that this works. g

  6. Jed & Abby in MerryLand Says:

If it’s anxiety and not nausea/diarrhea, how about doggie Valium? Jed occasionally takes amitriptyline for anxiety, mostly when mama is going to be away for a day or two. He’s fine when we’re just left for a few hours, but starts to chew on himself if it’s overnight. Is Gretchen more confident in a small travel crate than loose in the car? You could use the seat belt to hook the carrier into the passenger seat, so she could see you the whole trip. Mama did that when she used to have cats. Hope Gretchen doesn’t have to do a lot of car travelling, if it upsets her so much. Good luck with Sissy’s next visit to the VisionVet.

Oh dear. I do hope you find something that works. Gracie loves the car so much that we actually have to spell it when we talk about it.

  8. Mango Says:

My Grandpa Angus used the doggie valium (which is actually just plain old human valium) for his thunderstorm anxiety. Maybe that would help the wee beast.

  9. The OP Pack Says:

We are so silly sometimes. We never made the connection between you, the Mango Minster Diva winner AND Best in Show when you and the Momster were in conversation about your eyes. We are here now and we surely have lots of back reading to do to get to know you better. We are glad the vet visit went well and hope the pressures can stay under control. Not only did we have Lucky with the glaucoma problems, but our Dad has major eye issues, including glaucoma. Mom says maybe he needs to start seeing the vet instead of the gazillion eye specialists.

So glad we finally figured out who you are.

Maybe a ride in The Xterra would be khalming?

BTW, we did give woo a woofout on the blog today – it wasn’t your OFFICIAL transport but Mom did have Pebs The Diva!

We do hope woo are still giving thought to your OFFICIAL one!

So glad Wondervet is willing to try different options for Gretchens anxiety! I really hope something will work for her.
