Busted Routines

July 2011 015Gretchen here.  This photo kinda’ says it all.  It’s been ridiculously warm, Dadaw’s been notably absent, and all of this has shot our routines all to —  you know…

Anyway, happy dogs on thursday and little friday to you.  This morning, it seems the heatwave has broken, so I’m going to hold Mama to her word and we’re going to get a long, long walk this afternoon.  Then, I’m going to pin her to the sofa and make her hold me all evening long.  She can knit if she must, but I’m not budging!

******

Mama here.  These girls are creatures of routine like no others.  Most of the time, that’s awesome, but I still don’t think Gretchen Greer has EVER been too hot, and she doesn’t understand – or understands and has no patience – for poor double-coated Sissy and her heat sensistivities!  They both did really well while the Knight was out of town, which I truly appreciate…  Sissy did have a little fussy fest Monday morning when she figured out he wasn’t coming home to switch vehicles, but that was as bad as it got.

Do your dogs fuss when their routines are broken?

Mommy says we are creatures of habit too. (who you callin a creature mommy???)

(ed. note: if I put something different in the living room like a shipping box they are beside themselves. they pace and sniff and pace and sniff and will not relax until it’s taken away)

[…] Happy Dogs on Thursday, little friday and Thankful Thursday to you.  Gretchen has done a little post about her woes, so I thought I’d keep things light and share a fun, dog-related birthday […]

Oh yes, we like routine. We really don’t like it when the humans go out at night and we have to be home alone. Then they think we are just going to go to bed when they finally get her – we need playtime and maybe a late meal.

A break in the heat here yesterday and today but not in the humidity. If the sun is out, it is totally unbearable. And the worst part is that they say it is going to get even worse for at least the whole next week:( Bring on the snow!!!

Jake here…I stop eating for at least a day if Dad goes away. Abby just sleeps more. Mom is all well and good, but Dad is usually here 24/7 at our beck and call (his office is downstairs with a pillow under the desk just for me). Plus we have Dad wrapped around our paws. Mom…she the Alpha dog. No flim-flamming her.

We too, like our routine. You Hoomans just don’t get it! You exist for our pleasure, and breaking routine is NOT ok. Leaving us is particularly wrong. Yes, GG, pin that woman to the couch!

MOnty couldn’t tolerate any change to routine, but this group is a little different. Morgan and Tsar quite like routine, but the Porties are ready for anything. Of course, feeding routine is a different story. They want to eat on time, they want to stand in their own places and get their own food. Rob sometimes tries to change things around and it just doesn’t work.

Oh Yes. We three are on a routine all the time. We go out in intervals at first when mom gets home and after we eat our dinner we all get to play together outside. (That is a much as Tyson can play since he is on a chain since he runs off ALL THE TIME.) The WORST is when Daddy has duty crew and forgets to tell us good-bye. We pace and pace until finally Mom calls the firestation and we speak to him on the phone. Then we just have to decide who gets to sleep on Dad’s side of the sofa. We are a very spoiled bunch they say.

YES! Kitty especially. I swear she has the memory of an elephant. She knows that at 8:30pm we go out to play fetch. She reminds us by going and whining at her droor and refusing to come back to the couch. Coco is a stickler on when she thinks we should both be home. If my husband is late, she pretty much barks at every little thing (as if to say, I’m pissed! Dad should be home).
Ok, so I guess I have to admit that they might have learned this from me. I am the worst one of our household about routine 🙂

We get grumpy and depressed when our routines are messed with! One of the worst offenders is the rain and we can’t have our daily walkie!

    Love ya lots

Oh yeah. Micro likes to shred his pee pad and the paper off the 12-pack drink containers. He’s learned not to pull too much off the drink containers, though. Those cans are pretty scary when they fall out and roll/chase you all over the floor. lol

  11. Nichole Says:

Of course……. they’re dogs, after all, right? ha ha 🙂

  12. StarSpry Says:

I’m glad it’s cooled down a bit! Hopefully you’re all back to the normal routines 🙂
