Talk much?

Happy dogs on thursday to you!   Since the last post was supposed to be about ME and MY trip to meet Wondervet’s replacement, I’m taking matters into my own paws today, to be sure I get enough press.

February 2011 002Mama is on a rampage.  See… I’ve been extra talkative since the vet’s Monday evening.  Not my fault the woman planned my appointment smack in the middle of walk-walk AND dinner time.  Did she really expect me to be on my best behavior when there was a walk to be had AND my stomach was growling?  Besides, the folks at the vets office thought it was cute that I had a lot to say and wasn’t shy about it.

Gretchen can be yappy.  I know that’s rude, and I know Mama has no tolerance for that shrill stuff Gg will do when she’s excited, but the girl has a right to express herself.

You can’t tell, but Gretch is in mid-bark in that photo.  Her bark is fine; it’s that ear-splitting, rapid-fire yap of hers that has to go.

Mama is teaching us a command called “Shhhh… inside voice” that means we can make soft noises, but no real barks, bays, yaps or howls.  Hrmph.  Do your humans have such obnoxious rules about self-expression?

[…] little friday and thankful thursday to you.  Sissy is feeling very DIVA-ish these days, so do click right over and bow to the queen, will you?  (Hem.)  Both girls chatting […]

I have a house full of happy, yappy mutts! Everyone, at one time or another, has something to say – to me – and does so at will! Jetta is the funniest because when I get home from work and sit down in the LR to catch up with Mr. Man, she gets right up on the ottoman and tells me EveryThing that happened during my absence! Thankfully, her speaking voice is much less high-pitched than her actual barking voice : ) uh, wuh, wuh wuh!

Oh yes, we have rules too. We taught them “Thank you” which means “I know someone is at the door, thank you, you can stop barking now”. And we have “inside voice” as well. Sometimes howling through the house can just be too loud.

Oh yes, inside voices only here too. About the only time we really get loud is when Mom first gets up in the morning and we are all excited to get outside and check the perimeter for the night time visitors.

Bentley learned to whisper. It was really funny to hear him quietly going woof woof under his breath. We started it when he was little because he like to bark at the Christmas tree lights and after a couple days of it I started shushing him. He did it all his life. Wish I could teach it to this unruly pack.

Absolutely love the photo of Sissy showing off her, um, jowls? Is that what you call them?

My Lucy doesn’t bark (extremely rare for her to do so) so we don’t have an inside voice. However, she makes a huge amount of other noises: little snorts, sighs, whines, snores when sleeping…she can really express herself!

Erm, yes. Misty has a very shrill bark when she is announcing someone at the door. It bounces off the tile floor and the walls, and momma says it pierces her ears. Sasha is our talker and has even been known to yell when we don’t obey fast enough. As for commands, Mom has plenty of them. As for listening to/obeying them….we mostly don’t bother. Should we?

What was your mom thinking to schedule an appt at a most important time of the day?!
Our mom tells us to shush too many times a day for our liking!

    Love ya lots

When I’m having a grand ‘ole time chewing on fingers and nipping at ankles, Mama tells me to be “Sweet Puppy”. That means I have to quit having fun and just give kisses and cuddle. Booooring.

Ok, the first picture is a framer! Hilarious. We are not very vocal, EXCEPT when someone rings the doorbell. Then, watch out!!! We thought Coco literally couldn’t bark for about a year. Then one day she let out a fierce “guff guff”. Let us know how the inside voice goes..

Tut really needs to learn that “inside voice” thing…. he’s getting on Mama’s nerves to the last end…

Oh Sissy, if you only knew… the munchkins over here have a LOT of rules about their voices, amongst other things! It’s much better to have four legs!
