Uninvited Guests

September 29, 2011

Thorsday already?!  Wow.  Hope it’s a happy one!

September 2011 004So, today’s topic is uninvited guests.  We have lots of them in the woods.

Pardon the poor photo…  Maybe now Dadaw will believe Mama when she asks for a bigger zoom lens for our camera?  It also doesn’t help any that she was taking that photo with us bouncing against her, the back door, and otherwise going crazy.  After all, it’s our job to yell at those deer and remind them that’s OUR YARD!!

Anyway, that’s the whole point of this post.  Do you get invaded?  Do your humans appreciate your efforts to notify them of the uninvited guests within your territory?

See, Dadaw thinks we’re awesome and loves our warnings… to a point.  Mama doesn’t give us as much barking room.  After a couple of shouts, SHE wants us to hush, whether the visitors are still on our property or not.   How does that work at your house?

Moo on Thorsday

September 22, 2011

One of Mama’s favorite poets is Robert Frost, and Two Look at Two is one she’s read aloud to us a few times, particularly when there have been deer in the yard, which happens several times daily, since we live in the woods…

Anyhow, one of Sissy’s many nicknames is Moo, and for a long while now, Mama has been making jokes about “Moo Look at Moo” when we pass the cows.  Finally, Mama got her act together and got a cute photo so we could share this little bit of babble with you.

It’s not a great photo, but the poor woman did have her hands full, what with two leashes, her phone/camera…  It’s only fair that I – Gretchen Greer – note that both of us dogs were barking, even though we know that’s a no-no.  We were just too excited to behave, so this photo is as good as it gets.

Pity, because Sissy and that black with white face cow really were having a staring contest.  Sissy didn’t stand a chance though, because as soon as the phone was tucked away, Mama ordered us on down the road… right after we were FIRMLY told enough was enough and we MUST be QUIET.

Happy Thorsday to you!

New Noms

September 15, 2011

Happy Thorsday!  Know what we like best about Thorsdays?!  They’re nearly Fridays, and Fridays bring weekends, which bring more time with our humans…

Mama lied.  She told us when she agreed to this president-elect thing that it wouldn’t take more time than what she was already doing.  Riiiight.  I think we’re going to get her a new watch, because CLEARLY the ones she has don’t work.  Yesterday, we only got a little over a mile walk, crammed in between two meetings.  Where are her priorities!?

Anyhoo, in an effort to keep the peace, the woman did score some new noms for us.   Just about everything she buys these days comes from PetCo, because that is so convenient for her, but really, all that matters is she keeps buying yummies.

For my – Gretchen Greer – birthday, we got Zuke’s Z-bones in cherry.  Since they were big hits, we got more and some carrot too.  They don’t last long at all, but they’re good for our teeth, safe for Sissy and they do take longer to crunch up than those Sammy Snacks she dispenses regularly.

Note from Mama:  They’re hardly cheap, but life with a dog who can’t have corn, beef, chicken, pork, venison, duck, etc. is challenging enough that we are grateful we don’t have to pinch pennies when it comes to treats!

We’ve also tried two (meat-free) varieties of the Simply 5 chews.  They’re tasty, but Sis finds them ridiculously small and lobbies for two… to no avail, of course.

From Mama:  I know nothing about this company.  Anyone else have experience with their products?

Do you have any Sissy-approved chews we should know about?

Thorsday 1.2

September 8, 2011

Happy Thorsday, said in my best Eeyore voice, followed by “Tut, tut, looks like rain.”

Hrmph.

September 2011 006

Mama had the dang camera in my face yesterday.  She loves this photo because she thinks it shows how expressive my un-eye is.  Whatever.  I was trying to hunt and she was being annoying.

*******

September 2011 009Gretchen here.  THIS is why it’s best if the DIVA just dictates and leaves the writing to me.  Boy is she crabby this morning!   Missing a walk on Tuesday and getting her feet wet yesterday shouldn’t ruin the whole week.  Geeze.

Don’t you think Mama should let me have this pretty scarf?  Heck, it would look good on the DIVA Crab too, if she could stop being hard to get along with long enough to see the purple in there.  Personally, I’m glad for the tiniest bit of chill in the air.  I have lots of pretty dresses and cool weather means I can wear ’em!

Happy dogs on Thorsday to you!

Thorsday 1.1

September 1, 2011

In case you didn’t get the memo, we’re honoring our departed friend Thor in part by carrying on his Thorsday tradition.  Y’all know it’s still dogs on thursday and little friday, but we’ll be calling it Thorsday indefinitely, ‘kay?

A peek at our yummy cake

It’s no small irony – because nothing was small about our big friend Thor –  that on the very day he left us to go play with Mugsy and Fred and the other pets across the Rainbow Bridge, Thor’s sweet mom baked us a cake for Mama’s birthday, and yesterday the Brown Truck man at work brought Mama said cake, just in time for my belated birthday celebration.

So, thank you Miss Marjie for our scrumptious cake that was made with special consideration for Sissy and her food issues.  We all had a piece of that yummy cake, right after Dadaw and I took care of the big ol’ copperhead in MY PEN.

Hrmph.  Mama won’t share the photo Dadaw took of the beast.  Something about too many of you don’t like snakes.  Whatever.  I wasn’t scared; I backed that thing right up under the deck stairs and yelled at it and yelled at it to leave until Dadaw came and made me come inside.  Then HE ran it out into the yard and cut it to bits with with a shovel.   Mama was all smothery-mothery when Dadaw made me stay inside after he “rescued” me; she had to touch every hair on my body and even places I don’t have hair to assure herself that I was just fine.

Hrmph.  Where does she think I got my dainty and tough composition from?!  Mama is still plenty tough, but she also looks so ladylike when she’s dressed up…  I’m a cracker-Jack Russell Terrier after all!

August 2011 011

Doesn't it look good?! No, I wouldn't stand and pose because I knew mean Mama was trying to take my pretty from me!

Anyway, in honor of my day, Auntie G also sent pressies for all of us.  Mama and I are fighting over the necklace.  It’s tiny, so it must be mine, right?!  But no, mean ol’ Mama put it in HER jewelry chest and has it around HER big ol’ neck today.  Hrmph.  (Why yes, I am saying that a lot today.  I’m indignant.  Yes, that’s the word for it, Sissy… trust me.  Just go back to using that purple nail file Auntie G sent you…)

You’ll have to click over to Mama’s blog later today to see more of the gifties.  I suppose I should also show you the PANK frame she bought off Etsy for me.   The nice folks – Sadie, her human and the cats – at The Beaded Tail tempted Mama with it on one of their friday features.

So, happy Thorsday everyone.  We should all be so gentle and good, at least on Thorsdays…
