We Made It!

Summer 2010

Happy Thorsday!  It’s always cause for a celebration when we make it through all the fireworks within doggy-earshot of the woods.   Sissy couldn’t care less, but they cause Gretchen to slip into yappy little dog mode, and THAT upsets Sissy.

The good news is this year, despite having at least three different fireworks displays Gg could hear, she only had one race around the back yard barking at the sky moment, and she was calm enough that I just called both dogs inside, gave them a chewy treat, and the moment passed.

We’re still crossing paws that one local pack will get their power back today.  They too have a special needs dog… she has seizures.  Their vet hasn’t called it epilepsy yet, but she’s gone longer than usual without having an “episode” and as some of you will understand, that doesn’t give her dog-ma much peace; instead, she’s more concerned than ever about being there when the next seizure happens.

How did your 4th go?

[…] Thorsday, little friday and Thankful Thursday!   The girls survived all of the 4th celebrations, which is reason enough to give thanks.   I’m really […]

Much to Dr. Tooth’s dismay, I wouldn’t let him go nutso with the fireworks this year. We did low to the ground stuff and had lots of whipper snappers (the little things you throw at the ground and they pop?) and sparklers. My fireworks-lovin’ guy pouted for most of the day. He doesn’t seem to hear me when I try to explain that we’re under drought conditions and I really don’t think it would be neighborly to set the hay field behind us on fire. /eyeroll/

Lots of Grrffffs, and Guffffs, and Grrrrrr’s at the Mitchell house. But then after about 10pm, my two just gave up and went to sleep. Success! Guess they are adults now too? Glad your 4th was under control. We will be thinking about your pal with seizures.

You look so cute in your patriotic hat, Sissy!
We sure hope this family gets their power turned back on – heck, we hope everyone gets their electric back! It’s too hot without it!

    Love ya lots,
    Mitch and Molly

We infer you have power; hope your friend has it back, too. We lost power for 24 miserable hours, but some poor people in the D.C. area are still without power 7 days later.

We’re so happy Gg had a good, calm Fourth. We don’t get fasched about stuff like that, but we’re full of sympathy for those who do because mama has had doggies in the past who were affected. Yay, Gg!

Our people abandoned us all day yesterday! By the time they got home, all the pops and bangs were over, and we aren’t telling them a thing about we dealt with that. We havw our paws busy just telling them how we feel about being left all day and half the night!

So glad you survived the 4th of July hoop-la. We shut the house up, turned the air up, TV up loud for them. They only bother Bella the other sleep through it. We came home and she was hiding behind the chair shaking like a leave, poor girl. She was very happy to have us home to help protect her. I so wonder why they bother some dogs but not all dogs. Heck our dogs are hounds they are suppose to hunt, not be scared to death of a loud boom. Sniffs, The HoundDogs. P..S…You look dashing in your hat. 🙂

Beau hates them. In years past even the string of firecrackers going off would bother him. He jumps, runs and tries to find a safe spot where the big noise can’t get him. This year it was really only the big bangs that got him. So thankful for that.

We stayed home and watched NY, Boston and Seattle spend billions blowing things up on TV. Only one show played the Lee Greenwood song that I associated with the 4th. I think it’s one of my favorite ‘themed’ songs. g

We and our new neighbors were worried about some yahoo setting the area on fire. Wish they’d ban fireworks altogether.
